Why learn Sanskrit today?

People often ask whether Sanskrit is 'useful'. Here is an honest answer.

1. It sharpens your other languages

Much of Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and dozens of other Indian languages draw vocabulary directly from Sanskrit. Learn the roots once, and thousands of words start making sense.

2. The grammar is astonishingly logical

Pāṇini described the whole language in about 4000 rules, centuries before modern linguistics. Studying it is like learning to read the source code of a language.

3. Direct access to the texts

The Gita, the Upanishads, Kalidasa's poetry — translations are lovely, but the original carries music and precision no translation fully keeps.

Where to start

Begin with the script, learn a few words, and read a verse a week. That's enough.
